Crazy for cow (cowhide that is)

I have to admit Im the last one to jump onto the cowhide love.  Being a vegetarian, cows just don’t appeal to me.  AND being from Texas I have a confession, I hate all things cowboy, there I said it. (I feel better).

BUT these rugs, these beautiful cowhides have just wormed their way into my heart.  It all started with Sally Wheats‘ recently redesigned sitting room I blogged about here

If you follow me on Instagram, I posted a few pics of my new creamy cowhide I purchased:

Here are some more inspiration photos I have been drooling over lately:

And what about these- patchwork cowhides from Kyle Bunting? Who happened to be featured in Rue Magazines latest Issue (Texas style). Gorgeous right?

**Please if you are going to pin these photos, please click over to Kyle’s website and pin from the original source.

So knowing all good & well Im not at a place where I can afford one of Kyle’s masterpieces.  I did find this: Cowhide, Chevron, what more could you want??

And now the question Im asking myself, are two cowhides one too many?? Would putting this chevron cowhide in my dining room over cow-ify my space??  thoughts??

AND did you know that pure cowhide is naturally stain repellant? like even red wine repellant (so they say).

So what are your thoughts? are you into the “cow” or is it too “cow-boy” for you?  Im thinking we need to ask Elizabeth over at The Mustard Ceiling to do a Tuesday’s BAM or SLAM on cowhides.  So what say you? yay? or nay?

Tomorrow we’ll talk about Deer heads.  (kidding)…… Of course I did get a pair of antlers from the flea market……

Check ya’ll later!  (in my best Texas accent)

I am not being snarky nor am I a vegetarian, but how do you reconcile being one and purchasing a cowhide rug?

  2. Sandra says:

I LOVE it, including the chevron. I am going to get one soon!

  3. I too love cowhides, and I too am a vegetarian for health reasons. But even if not, there are options for purchasing cowhides and other animals skins that are sustainable. Simply buy from companies that take the hides from animals raised and used for meat. Instead of the hides going to waste, why not use them beautifully as you’ve shown in these rooms? I’m all about reusing, so why not this as well?

To answer your question, this is Texas, so too much of a good thing is… wonderful! I say go for the chevron cowhide if you love it. I cannot wait to see your finished room!

I love the look of cowhides too, but I’m not sure if I could incorporate one into my own home. I think the cowhides will compliment your spaces nicely. And the chevron one…(in the words of Rachel Zoe) I die… If you love them both, use them both!

I too love cowhides!! I think they are becoming more chic than cowboy these days and if you think the actual cowhide is too much then absolutely go for the chevron, which is a perfect illustration of modern Texas.

This very same cowhide chevron rug was seen on an episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians. Kris kardashian Jenner has this rug in her posh Calabasas, california home. I don’t know if that will make you love it more, instantly hate it or have no influence on your opinion.

  8. I think the chevron is different enough that you could do both. I love a hide rug too – though I don’t have one . I do have a couple of cowhide ottomans that I LOVE!

  9. Love your creamy hide! Ha Ha! I just had to say that. I cracked myself up!

Back to my serious self now. I can’t tell you how much I love the patchwork hide rugs. All of those examples are gorgeous!

Had lunch with Sherry today. We talked about you and I and our phone conversations. More insights I’ll be able to share with you soon…

Hope you had a great vacay!

  10. I wrote the first comment. I was just wondering…makes sense. I am not a vegetarian and I do like the look of the cowhide rug, but I think I’d feel guilty looking at it!

  11. Those were the exact images that made me bite the bullet and get one! I don’t think the two you’re considering would be too much!
