Color Smitten: Bittersweet & Zinc

Hello friends! I know we are still in the throes of Summer, but I can’t help but be drawn to these warm autumnal colors, Bittersweet and Zinc.  I love all the varying shades of orange, from the palest apricot to a rich warm rust.  I know many clients shy away from this color for fear of it feeling juvenile or Halloween-ish.   But paired with grays and cream, orange can become sophisticated and luxurious.

Oh how I would love to be bold enough to try a persimmon lacquered ceiling.

Mary McDonald, who is known for her use of rich bold color, has a beautiful kumquat orange fabric from her Schumacher line.

I love these more relaxed patterns from Thibaut in soft grays and orange.  These would be great in a kids playroom or a kitchen breakfast nook.

And this room just makes me want to sit with a hot cup of tea and a captivating novel.

This space is probably my favorite.  It has a luxurious feel  but with a touch a masculinity.

So, how about you?  Would you try some orange in your decor or do you have visions of pumpkins and Home Depot?

I’ve been contemplating using orange in my twin boys’ room. I was thinking of incorporating it with the navy and white that’s in there now but now that I see this….hmmmm…its making me think of going gray with orange instead. very masculine feel. of course now that they’re {nearly} ten they have to approve of changes in there but I think this is one change they’d definitely both vote for. 🙂
